Anthropic reports $33.24 billion in nine-month revenue and a $104 billion loss

Anthropic reported $33.24 billion in revenue and a $104 billion net loss for the first nine months of 2026, CNBC reports, citing its amended S-1. The loss mainly reflects an accounting revaluation of convertible notes and derivatives. Revenue was up about 1,200% from a year earlier, but growth is slowing: it rose 144% in the second quarter from the first, and about 47% in the third, to about $17 billion. Commitments under purchase and lease agreements, mostly for compute, total $895.4 billion.

Opera lets websites use local AI models, including Apple's model on Macs

Opera has added WebAI to its Opera One browser - an early preview of a proposed standard that lets websites and extensions use AI models running on the user's own computer. It works without the cloud or a subscription, and the data stays on the computer. At launch, WebAI supports models including Google's Gemma and, on Macs, Apple's own model. Users have to turn the feature on themselves and choose which websites can access it. WebAI will later come to Opera GX and Opera Neon as well.

r/opensource moderators ban AI projects and tell people who don't speak English to find another forum

Overnight from October 24 to 25, moderators of the r/opensource subreddit announced that they will no longer allow projects that use AI, were made with its help or are built for it, and that any other project must be at least a year old, have several contributors and an existing community. Anyone who doesn't speak English should post elsewhere, because the moderators can't tell text written by AI from text AI only translated. The announcement has drawn more than 2,000 comments, and a rival subreddit, r/TrueOpenSource, has sprung up in response.

AI computing power is getting more expensive faster than Nebius expected

The price per megawatt rose again at Nebius's auction on Tuesday, Marc Boroditsky, the company's chief revenue officer, told CNBC. He said prices are rising faster than Nebius expected and that if the company brought its 2027 capacity online, it would sell out. Chase Lochmiller, CEO of Crusoe, says his company is renting out older Nvidia chips, the A100 and H100, at higher prices today than right after their launch.
