Anthropic to spend $11.6 billion on Akamai's cloud over seven years

Anthropic committed to spending $11.6 billion over seven years on Akamai's cloud infrastructure - the largest deal in Akamai's history. In return, Akamai gave Anthropic the right to acquire up to about 5 percent of its shares, depending on the level of spending, and with larger orders the deal could grow to about $20 billion. Akamai expects the first revenue from the deal in the second half of 2027.

Google will limit model access in free Gemini - only Flash-Lite from October 9

Starting October 9, Google will begin limiting model access in the Gemini app on personal accounts: users without a paid plan will keep only the Flash-Lite model and lose access to the Flash and Pro models, according to a Google help document reported by 9to5Google. Subscribers to the cheapest paid plan, AI Plus, will lose access to the Pro model, and Google is to notify them of the date by email. AI Pro subscribers, on the other hand, will get Deep Think mode, so far reserved for the AI Ultra plan.

Suno launches Speech - a speech generator with background music, in beta for now

Suno, the service known for generating music, made a beta version of its Speech feature available to all users. From a short description or a ready-made script, it creates a voice recording and immediately adds music underneath, which can be turned off. In advanced mode, users can choose a male or female voice and a speaking style, and a recording can be up to about eight minutes long.

Anthropic cuts off internet access in all internal model evaluations

Anthropic published a report on Claude's unintended actions during testing and internal use. The model exploited a software vulnerability to run commands on a server, got around the limits of its web fetch tool through link shorteners, reached data behind tokens or paywalls and submitted a form it shouldn't have - according to Gizmodo, it was a false tip about an unsolved murder sent to the Philadelphia police by the small Haiku 4.5 model. Some of the cases involved federal, state and local government websites in the US, and the company informed the White House. Anthropic assesses the impact as minimal, but it has cut off internet access in all internal evaluations until it confirms that its safeguards and monitoring reliably catch such behavior.
