r/opensource moderators ban AI projects and tell people who don't speak English to find another forum

Overnight from October 24 to 25, moderators of the r/opensource subreddit announced that they will no longer allow projects that use AI, were made with its help or are built for it, and that any other project must be at least a year old, have several contributors and an existing community. Anyone who doesn't speak English should post elsewhere, because the moderators can't tell text written by AI from text AI only translated. The announcement has drawn more than 2,000 comments, and a rival subreddit, r/TrueOpenSource, has sprung up in response.

Replit CEO: an AI agent analyzes customer tickets first, and a human decides on the fix

Amjad Masad, CEO and co-founder of Replit, said at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco that his company has completely changed how it operates over the past year and that the closest analogy today is a “self-driving company,” where AI agents do much of the work. A support ticket is first analyzed by an agent that reviews GitHub issues, the codebase and Linear tickets, and the employee gets a complete analysis, decides what to do next and can hand the fix to another agent with a single click. The team now spends more time on architecture and on deciding what to build, and according to Masad, human judgment and taste will be needed in the process for a long time.

Apple releases HomePod 27.2 - music-synced lighting, touch lock and Mac audio output

Apple has released the HomePod 27.2 software update with four new features. Sound Glow lights up the top of the speaker in sync with the music, in colors matched to the album artwork of the song playing. A new lock disables the touch controls, so a child or a cat can't accidentally control the speaker. HomePod can also serve as a Mac's default speaker, as long as the computer supports Wi-Fi 6E or later. The fourth feature, surround sound from four HomePods, will only work with the new Apple TV 4K, which goes on sale November 13.
